Swiss Sprint Champion Balint Ashton to Make International Debut at European Aquatics Championships in Paris
Basel, Switzerland — 27 July — Swiss freestyle sprinter Balint "Bash" Ashton will make his senior international debut at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris (10–16 August 2026), capping a breakthrough season in which the 19-year-old became double Swiss long-course champion.
Ashton, who trains with Basel Aquatics under coach Xavier Fleury, won national long-course titles in both the 50m and 100m freestyle in 2026 and added silver in the 200m — results that earned his selection to the Swiss National Team and his place on the start blocks in Paris. He holds personal bests of 22.57 (50m free), 49.17 (100m free) and 1:48.27 (200m free).
"Paris is a huge step, and I've worked for every hundredth of it," said Ashton. "My mindset is simple — never give up. I want to race with everything I have, learn from the best in Europe, and keep building toward the Olympic Games."
Based in Arlesheim, Ashton combines full-time elite training with the start of a university degree in business and economics this autumn — a dual-career path he sees as central to his long-term development both in and out of the pool.
The European Aquatics Championships bring together the continent's leading swimmers and mark Ashton's first major senior international competition, a milestone on a trajectory aimed at the Olympic Games.
